About John M. Fugett

A thoughtful, experienced, and collaborative approach to individual counseling for adults ages 18 and older and to couples counseling across Alaska.

A human approach

Experience with room for the individual

John M. Fugett is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Alaska and a National Certified Counselor. Through his telehealth practice, he works with adults and couples facing emotional and relational challenges.

John holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling. His perspective has been shaped by more than three decades in counseling and psychotherapy, as well as ten years of service in the U.S. Army.

Before private practice, John worked in both direct-service and leadership roles in substance-use treatment and community mental-health settings. He has also taught and presented on psychology, peer support, motivational interviewing, and behavioral health. Those experiences inform his work without defining the person sitting across from him.

How the work takes shape

My Approach

Therapy begins with a relationship built on compassion, curiosity, and respect.

I draw from Interpersonal Neurobiology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and specialized training in early-childhood trauma. In plain language, that means paying attention to how thoughts, emotions, early experiences, and relationships shape the patterns that affect life now.

No single method fits every person or every couple. We work collaboratively, with respect for your goals and your pace. I offer practical feedback and ideas while making room for reflection, questions, and the complexity of your experience.

Skills and techniques matter, but the therapeutic relationship matters too. My aim is to create a setting where honest conversation can lead to clearer understanding and useful next steps.
